About
Hi my name is Maddy Overett and I am the new manager at Capalaba Saddlery.

So here is a little bit about me.
When I was very young I saw my Aunty and my cousins competing at the EKKA and I always wished that was me. When I was four I had my first ride on a pony and that was probably the worst mistake my parents ever made.
When I was 6 we moved over to England and I lived there for 7 years. I learned how to ride in freezing cold weather. I never missed a lesson even if it was raining, hailing or snowing I would be there (With three layers of clothing on). The best memory I have riding over in England is going out for a hack and galloping through the farmers barley crops and getting all the barley in my boots and emptying it on my mums clean floor.
I moved back over to Australia when I was 13. I competed QISEA for Somerville house for grade 9 and 10 and Cannon Hill Anglican College for 11 and 12. I also have been a member of Gumdale Pony Club for nearly 10 years.
After grade 12 I suffered a spinal injury which didn’t let me ride for 2 years and then another 2 years of on off riding and finally this year I have managed to ride full time. At last, my horse Hero, who I bought 5 years ago, will have his first year competing.
Work wise after I left school I worked for a brand called Cue and Veronica Maine and at the age of 18 I became the stock coordinator for QLD. Working mainly in the inner city stores and working out what would go in each shop. I also worked very closely with the visual merchandiser.
After two years I was fortunate to be able to move on to Costumes for feature films and I have been working in the film industry for over 3 years now in New Zealand and Australia. I had my first chance to mix my love of horses and film when I was horse handler on a TV commercial for Qld trotters. And I loved plaiting up horses on 1950s film “Bride Flight” in NZ when I was really only supposed to be looking after people costumes.

Then when the industry was slow I worked casually at Capalaba Saddlery, my favourite horse supply shop, on Saturdays. Being in the right place at the right time, right when I needed more hours, our previous manager resigned and I was able to step up.
So since I have been manager of the Saddlery a lot has changed. All new staff have been employed. We have had a re vamp of the shop and ordered in a great new range of stock. It takes me back to my time as Stock Co-ordinator at Cue & Veronica Maine where I learnt to put together what people want with a rolling plan of keeping the right stock up. So I hope you all love the shop as I much as I do. Please come in and have a look. And if there is anything you need, let me know.

See you all soon
